Week IX- Homework

Any school can be a pretty difficult place to be a part of. All different kinds of personalities and styles mix in the school and there can be a lot of pressure to succeed, especially at higher grade levels. Students who work hard on a project and feel confident about their work might find themselves receiving an "F". Even other students mock or ridicule others just because they are different than them in age, ability, or some other insignificant thing. Write about a bad educational experience that you have had in school.

REMEMBER: Turn in your portfolio contents next week- revised essay + all drafts, revised paragraph + all drafts, and a new paragraph.

EXCITING UPDATE: I have added a review presentation about the 4 guidelines of style I taught you this week. If you feel uncomfortable with these guidelines, use these examples to practice with before trying to apply the guidelines to your writing. Remember, there is no one answer with style, so I did not supply answers.

Week VII- Homework

Many of us have spent most of our lives in school. From a young age to recently, we have engaged in learning about a variety of subjects. Many students want nothing more than to leave school. Later, they might wish for the unique opportunities and environment that their school offered. Write about a good memory from you schooling.

REMEMBER: Next week is your individual conference. Please be prepared to ask questions about material you do not understand and get feedback about your paper. We only have ten minutes; make them count.

Week VI- Homework

When I first came to Korea, I lived in Sokcho. I still remember the first time I saw Sokcho and remember many good memories there. Though there are many good places in Korea, I feel most comfortable in Sokcho and visit there frequently. Everyone has a place where they feel comfortable- a safe, enjoyable place. Perhaps it is a city or a restaurant, a home or a dorm room, or a shop or a school. Write about a place you find very special.

Describe the place using a variety of specific details and follow good paragraph structure. When you are late, I do not give credit, so please post or comment on time.


ALSO you must turn in two things by next week:
1) your revised essay
2) a new paragraph (perhaps you wrote in class or from your blogs)

Week V- Homework

Some of you have talked about interesting topics, such as visual diaries or playing squash. I have really enjoyed reading your blogs and comments so far. Good work! I wanted to give you a chance to talk about something you want to talk about, so you can write about any topic this week. Please write about nice, appropriate topics. Do not write about violent, disgusting, or otherwise inappropriate topics (Disney-movie appropriate topics). Write about a topic of your choosing and comment on three other blogs.

Week IV- Homework

We interact with people every day- shopkeepers, friends, strangers, teachers, and many more. Each of these people acts uniquely. A shopkeeper might give you a genuine smile when giving you your food. Friends often do funny things together, creating memories that last a long time. As we read in class, many Chinese people were impressed with the actions of the US politicians. Certain expressions or actions greatly influence us. Write about a time when someone's action was meaningful to you.

Week III- Homework

We all have something special. These things could remind us of good memories, give us hope for the future, or just make us happy. What might mean a lot to one person, may not for another. Later in our book, we will read about some objects people find important, including a toy, a car, and some clothes. Describe an object that is special to you in detail.

Goals:

- Follow paragraph structure (topic sentence, several support sentences, and a concluding sentence)
- Use a subject and verb in each sentence

Respond to three other people's posts by 8pm within two days of writing your post. These homework assignments are meant to give you practice writing about various topics and apply the things we learn in class. Perfect writing is not necessary, but do try to practice lesson material. Have fun writing with each other!

Good Examples

Wow! I enjoy going to coffee shops, too. Usually, I order a milkshake instead of coffee. Coffee shops have a nice atmosphere for talking and reading.

Starcraft is so fun! I could watch the Star League all day. However, I am disappointed that you like Protoss, because they are too powerful. Canon rushes make me angry. I prefer to play Zerg.
